Embedding from Shutterfly

I'm still playing around with embedding things on a blog. Today I'll try it with the Christmas card I just made on Shutterfly.com.

Word Play

Today I tried my hand at creating a word cloud. I'm hoping my students can take some of the pieces from their journals and create their own using Wordle.net

Here's mine:

Pillow Talk

Years ago when I taught at the elementary level, my kiddos loved grabbing a pillow to curl up with as they read. When I moved up to jr. high, that concept went by the wayside. My pillows were small, worn, and I didn't really have enough room for kiddos to stretch out on the floor.

Now that I've spent the last two years in a larger classroom, I've been feeling the need to bring that comfortable environment back for my reading workshop. But I just couldn't bring myself to spend the $50 or so that I used to spend on pillows.

Enter Pinterest!

After a short search I came across Mrs. Wills Kindergarten Blog. She had that most brilliant idea! Why not make pillow cases from bath towels?

Problem solved! I found bath towels in bright colors at our local Dollar General. Then I scavenged our house for older,  unneeded bed pillows. (Who really needs those decorative shams on their beds!) I've been blessed with a crafty mother who owns a sewing machine. So after a $15 investment and an hour of quality time with Mom, I now have four new pillows for my classroom!

So easy, so inexpensive, I'll be adding more as the year goes on!

Baby Steps

Well, I might as well give blogging a try.

As the title of this site suggests, I have to learn to speak their language...be it my techie husband, my brainiac preschooler, or my web-obsessed students. Blogging is a part of their language, so it must become part of mine.

This is my first step into the blogosphere.
